HEC Montréal and the CMA Order renew their partnership

Montréal, June 18, 2008 – A few days ago, the Quebec Order of Certified Management Accountants (CMAs) and HEC Montréal renewed the memorandum of understanding that has linked them since 1998 and which provides for the recognition of the knowledge acquired in the CMA Strategic Leadership Program (SLP) as part of the new version of the Master of Science (M.Sc.) program, management control option, offered at HEC Montréal.

“We are delighted to see that the new version of the HEC Montréal program has been so closely aligned with the CMA Strategic Leadership Program, which was updated last year,” declared the President of the Board of the Order, Richard Désy, FCMA. “It is a sign that our long-standing partnership with HEC Montréal is evolving at the same pace as the educational needs of students and the requirements of employers.”

“More than ever, HEC Montréal, just like businesses and students, is aware of the realities of the market,” explained Michel Patry, Director of HEC Montréal. “Our agreement with the CMA Order clearly testifies that it is so. Thanks to this cooperation, students interested in a CMA profession will have an option that meets their needs more precisely. In addition, the M. Sc. program as revised in 2008 now offers candidates the possibility of choosing between conducting a supervised project and writing a thesis, such that the program is even better suited to the objectives of the SLP,” Mr. Patry added.

The preferred educational approach is based on the development of student skills (expertise), attitudes (people skills) and knowledge. This new formula makes use of such dynamic and interactive learning methods as presentations, discussions and case studies.

The Quebec Order of Certified Management Accountants, which has more than 8,600 members and candidates to the profession, provides leadership to the CMA profession through the enforcement of high standards intended to enhance the performance of organizations. CMAs create value within organizations through an integrated and systematic approach to strategic and financial management.
