The new Chair of the Board of Directors of the Quebec CMA Order announces his action priorities for 2008-2009

Montreal, September 3, 2008 - Appointed a few weeks ago to the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Ordre des comptables en management accrédités du Québec (CMA), Claude Paul-Hus, FCMA, General Manager of the Société québécoise d’information juridique (SOQUIJ), announced that recruiting an outstanding next generation of CMAs would be the focus of his action priorities in 2008-2009.

After achieving its best recruiting performance since 2001-2002, the Order will do everything it can to penetrate even more of the student market and strengthen its leadership of professions in the legal and business sector. This year we will launch the Foundation of the Order, which is our chosen lever to support the Order’s efforts to promote and uphold the reputation of the profession,” says the new Chair.

By securing financing for the Order’s scholarship program, funding research projects and projects of community interest, participating in programs and events that promote excellence and supporting the publication of reference works, the creation of the Foundation fits perfectly within the framework of the new 2008-2011 strategic plan and the objectives defined in it. “We are both determined to support talent and convinced that the strong feeling of belonging that CMAs have for their profession will guarantee the Foundation resources in line with our ambitions,” says Claude Paul-Hus.

With his team, he also intends to implement two major changes to the profession, including the institution of mandatory continuing education for all CMAs and the creation of new public accounting permits.

In fact, following what many other professional orders have done in order to ensure both the general public and employers a practice worthy of the CMA professional designation, continuing education will become mandatory for all CMAs. “The rapid and constant development of knowledge required to practice the management accounting profession and the extent of changes resulting from it argue in favor of this choice. A choice,” adds Mr. Paul-Hus, “that is perfectly consistent with the primary mission of the Order, which is to protect the public and more specifically, to ensure that its members have the competencies required to obtain the CMA designation and keep them up to date for as long as they practice their profession.

In view of the coming into force, by no later than December 15, of Bill 42, which officially ends the CA monopoly over public accounting, the Order will continue to work hard on implementing all processes necessary to making the lawmakers’ intention of giving CMAs full practice rights in public accounting a reality. “Although we may not control the main part of the regulation adoption process, we hope to be able to issue our first public accounting permits in 2009.

The Chair of the Board of the Order will be assisted in achieving his priorities by the other members of the Executive Committee, including: Vice Chair, Jean Belhumeur, FCMA, President and Chief Operating Officer, Leviton Canada, Treasurer, Marie-Andrée Giroux, CMA, Senior Consultant, CGI, Elected Director, Charles Auger, FCMA, General Manager, Iron Mountain Canada, Director appointed by the Office des professions du Québec, Diane Pilotte, ood, and finally, President Executive-Director of the Order, François Renauld, FCMA.

The Quebec Order of Certified Management Accountants, which has more than 8,600 members and candidates to the profession, provides leadership to the CMA profession through the enforcement of high standards intended to enhance the performance of organizations. CMAs create value within organizations through an integrated and systematic approach to strategic and financial management.
