The new Chair of the Board of the Quebec CMA Order announces her action priorities for 2010-2011

Montreal, June 16, 2010 – Appointed Chair of the Board of the Ordre des comptables en management accrédités du Québec (CMA) just a few days ago, Marie-Andrée Giroux, CMA, Senior Consultant at CGI, has announced that in 2010-2011, the Order will be making special efforts to support the profession’s outstanding progress in the last three years.

“Supported by a very marked increase in the popularity of the profession, we fully intend to capitalize on our advances in the student market and consolidate, even increase our market segment.” The 60% net increase observed in the last ten years gives the CMA profession a substantial lead over the competition, since its closest competitor, the CGAs, have only posted a 17% increase. “It is clear,” states Giroux, “that CMAs are popular and the profession is setting itself apart more and more among both students who are choosing to pursue professional accounting careers and employers, whose demand for them has virtually never waned.”

While CMA professionals are enjoying full employment, the Order will also launch several new features in the coming months that will make it easier to recruit them. “The CMA Placement Service will innovate to simplify this task for employers and meet their needs even better,” claims Giroux.

Along with her team, the new Chair of the Board definitely intends to continue on the path set out by her predecessors as concerns the improvement of CMA competencies. According to the Chair of the Board of the Order, “the fact that the Regulation respecting compulsory continuing education for CMAs came into force just a few months ago shows our desire to join the huge movement toward continuing education for Quebec professionals and our constant concern for protecting the public. This is a major turning point for our profession, to such an extent that we will put a lot of energy next year into developing training products that are closely aligned with the CMA Competency Map and promote CMA career advancement.”

The Chair of the Board of the Order will be assisted in achieving her priorities by the other members of the Executive Committee, including Vice Chair Charles Auger, FCMA; Treasurer Nathalie Houle, CMA, Director, Business Performance Division at the Desjardins Group; elected director Marc Bélanger, CMA, owner/franchisee, Sushi Shop; Office des professions-appointed director Nelly Rodrigue, attorney, Secretary and Director of Legal Services of the Société des établissements de plein air du Québec; and finally, Secretary François Renauld, FCMA, President-Executive Director of the Order.
