What accounting should be

New Chair of the Board of the Quebec CMA Order announces his action priorities for 2011-2012

Montréal, June 27, 2011 – The newly elected Chair of the Board of the Ordre des comptables en management accrédités du Québec (CMA), Charles Auger, FCMA, Executive Director of Société en commandite Stationnement de Montréal, announced that in 2011-2012, the Order would pay special attention to differentiating the CMA product.

“Given the evolution of the accounting profession and the on-going discussions of a possible unification of the three accounting orders in Quebec, it is vital to ensure that the identity of CMAs and the characteristics of our field of practice are not merely preserved but receive greater emphasis.  In fact,” said Mr. Auger, “it is my firm intention to continue to keep CMAs closely involved in the modernization of the accounting profession and make the best decisions possible, after reviewing all of the options likely to serve the best interests of CMAs, businesses and the general public.”

Motivated by the sharp increase in the number of new candidates to the CMA profession, putting the Order’s growth well ahead of its closest competitors in the legal and business sector, the Order intends to strongly accentuate its presence in the field in order to make CMAs and their expertise better known and appreciated by both employers and professors. “All of this is likely to strengthen our leadership on the market,” the new Chair pointed out.

At the same time, the Order will work hard to support the rise of more CMAs to senior management positions and attract even more attention to those who occupy positions of influence, “in order to expand the ranks of those who might be called the elite force of the profession,” says Mr. Auger. CMAs who distinguish themselves in their professional world are highly credible ambassadors of a profession synonymous with boldness and creativity that scores highly with those aspiring to the accounting profession.”

The Chair of the Board of the Order will be assisted in achieving his priorities by the other members of the Executive Committee, including: Vice Chair, Nathalie Houle, CMA, Director, Business Performance Division at the Desjardins Group, Treasurer, Marc Bélanger, CMA, owner/franchisee, Sushi Shop, Elected Director, Marrouane Nabih, CMA, Corporate Director, Finance, Cascades Inc., director appointed by the Office des professions du Québec, Nelly Rodrigue, lawyer, Secretary and Director of Legal Services of the Société des établissements de plein air du Québec, and finally, President Executive-Director of the Order, François Renauld, FCMA.
